Holiday Family Outreach

Since 1953, volunteers of the Holiday Family Outreach, Inc. (HFO) have worked long and hard each year to make sure that low-income families in Adams County have toys for their children and that families, the elderly and those with disabilities have food for the holidays. Last year due to the generosity of so many HFO was able to serve 1500 families in Adams County.  This year the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the businesses that contribute significantly to this endeavor. In addition, HFO will be replacing its Toy Distribution Day with the distribution of gift cards to assist families in purchasing toys and food.  You can assist in the 2020 Holiday Family Outreach program in the following ways:

  • Make a donation payable to Holiday Family Outreach, Inc., PO Box 4013 Gettysburg, PA 17325. Please donate no later than November 15.
  • HFO is receiving donations of hats, gloves, and mittens (children’s and adult sizes) again this year for distribution.  Your donations can be dropped off at Christ Lutheran Church or call the church office to arrange a time for them to be picked up.  Please donate by November 30

Thank you for helping make Christmas a little brighter for those in need in our community.  Contact Jill Herr at if you have questions.

Goats And Pigs and Chickens!

Once again CELC will participate in the ELCA Good Gifts campaign to help fund farm animals and community development projects. You can also purchase an ornament for your Christmas tree. Ornaments will be displayed on a tree located in the pre-school entrance of the church after November 14. Stop by any time the office is open and ring the doorbell to enter. Select a pig, a goat, a sheep, or a hive of honeybees, drop off a check or cash in the nearby box, and give those creatures a home in your own Christmas tree. No feeding, watering, or grooming necessary! If you prefer, you can fund a woman’s microloan, a village water supply, a backpack, or even a latrine, instead of an animal. To see the full selection of animals and projects available this year, download the full catalog here

Give a gift that will grow the church, fight hunger, and transform lives in our country and around the world.

Would you be willing to donate $5 to provide a story of the nativity to one of our preschool students? Christ Lutheran Preschool is currently serving 26 local children by offering free online preschool materials in the form of videos (circle time, story time, chapel time), activity pages, Zoom calls, and a socially distanced weekly outdoor Clap- Tap-Praise class.

As you may know, our preschool was unable to open this fall due to COVID. The preschool and church staff and volunteers have worked to provide connections and learning opportunities to area preschool families during this time.

We would love to provide each student a book for Christmas and are asking members of the congregation to consider sponsoring a book for a preschooler. The cost is $5 per book which will cover the cost of the book, a sticker inside telling them it is a gift from Christ Lutheran, and a Christmas card.

If you’re willing to help, please send a check for $5 made payable to Christ Lutheran and write “Preschool Book” in the memo field. Thank you so much for your support! And please pass on the information about our free program to any who may be interested (email for more information to register).
